Terms of use
These terms cover your use of Whenvelope (whenvelope.com), whether you make a box, write an envelope from an invitation, or open one. By creating an account, or by adding anything to a box, you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use Whenvelope.
Whenvelope is run by Hollow Wolf LLC (“we” or “us”), which does business as Whenvelope under a fictitious name registered in Florida.
What we do
Whenvelope lets you write “Open when…” letters, add photos, videos, links and gift card codes to them, and share them through a private link. We store what you add and show it to the people who have the link.
It’s all digital. The gift boxes, mailboxes and envelopes are drawings on screen; nothing is printed, packed or mailed, and gift cards are codes from the store, delivered online.
Your content
What you write and upload stays yours. You give us permission to store it, process it (for example, resizing photos) and show it to whoever you share it with, only to run Whenvelope. You’re responsible for what you add: only add things you have the right to share, and nothing unlawful, hateful or harmful.
Whenvelope isn’t a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything you can’t replace, and download the photos and videos you want to keep.
Envelopes, payments and refunds
You buy envelopes in packs. Each envelope you write uses one when you send it to your kid, whether you send them all at once or some now and more later. Writing, building and previewing don’t use any, and neither do envelopes written by people you invite (up to 10 a box). Envelopes work in any of your boxes and don’t expire.
If you delete envelopes from a box before anything in it has been opened, you get them back. Once any envelope in a box has been opened, envelopes deleted from it don’t come back. If you change your mind about a pack, email us within 30 days and we’ll refund the envelopes you haven’t used. Gift codes add envelopes to your account; they can’t be exchanged for money.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Links and PINs
Anyone who has a box’s link can open it, and anyone with an invitation link can change that envelope. Share links only with the people they’re meant for. A PIN adds a second lock on a box; keep it private too. You’re responsible for who you give your links and PINs to.
Gift cards and other valuable information
We don’t sell, issue or guarantee gift cards. You buy them from the store or brand, and their terms apply to the card: balances, expiration, fees, replacement, and where it can be used. Many only work in the country they were bought in, so if the person you’re writing to is overseas or deployed, check before you buy.
We take care with what you give us. Card numbers, PINs and redeem links are encrypted before they’re stored, travel only over secure connections, and stay hidden until the envelope is opened. But no system is perfectly secure, and we can’t promise that information will never be lost, exposed or misused.
You add gift cards, codes and anything else of value at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, Whenvelope is not responsible for any loss, theft, unauthorized use or redemption, expiration or loss of value of a gift card or its code, including when someone gets a link, PIN or code, or when information is lost, deleted, corrupted or exposed, whatever the cause.
Keep the receipt or confirmation email for every card. If a card is lost or used by someone else, the store that sold it is usually the only one who can help, and most can with proof of purchase.
No warranty
Whenvelope is provided “as is” and “as available.” We don’t promise that it will always be available, on time or free of errors, that scheduled emails will always arrive, or that content will never be lost.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Whenvelope won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost money, gift card value or data. Our total liability for any claim about Whenvelope is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.
Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold Whenvelope harmless from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that come from what you add to Whenvelope, how you use it, who you share your links and PINs with, or your breaking these terms.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect; using Whenvelope after that means you accept it. Questions? Email hello@whenvelope.com.
